United Country Panama CEO Honored for Inspiring Environmental Education Across Panama

Recently, our CEO, Roberto, was honored by the Rotary Club of Panama for his outstanding contribution to environmental education through the creation and production of Mi Orgullo Panameño (“My Panamanian Pride”)—a groundbreaking children’s book designed to inspire young readers to appreciate and protect Panama’s natural heritage.

This recognition highlights both his commitment to the country and United Country Panama’s ongoing mission to support sustainable development, responsible land stewardship, and community empowerment.

A Vision That Started with Education

Mi Orgullo Panameño began as an ambitious project with a simple purpose:
Educate Panama’s youth about the environment and spark pride in the beauty of their homeland.

As the book’s earliest supporter, the Rotary Club played a pivotal role in bringing Roberto’s vision to life. Thanks to their generosity and commitment to community service, the first edition—4,000 copies—was printed in 2018 and distributed free of charge to public schools throughout:

• Chame

• Bocas del Toro

• Panama City

• And multiple surrounding communities

These free books ensured that students from diverse regions, including rural and underserved areas, had access to engaging and meaningful environmental education.

From Local Impact to National Momentum

As the project gained traction, it was positioned to receive a significant grant that would expand its reach across the country. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic shifted national priorities. Community resources were redirected toward urgent food-relief efforts, temporarily pausing the book’s expansion.

Today, that momentum has returned stronger than ever.

The Ministry of the Environment has pledged to print approximately 15,000 additional copies, enabling Mi Orgullo Panameño to reach schools and communities nationwide. This renewed support reflects the lasting value of the project and the growing national movement toward environmental awareness among Panama’s youth.
