Enjoying so many days with gorgeous blue skies and very hot temperatures 102F - max to min 80F with very low humidity.
Have the air con on & opening the front door blasts you with hot air!! After the initial shock we enjoy sitting out on the terrace having our lunch & dinner. Last night BBQ Fillet Steak, a full salad & fries. The steak was deliciously tender…
Tonight pasta with Alfredo sauce loaded with vegetables.
J has completed the last kitchen job. Sealed the laundry door - a big job actually & added shelves, so now there is easy access to all kitchen chattels. Very convenient! Thank you darling……
There is an adjustment to living here in "mañana time." There's just a completely different energy: more relaxed. I no longer enjoy that go-go-go mindset I had when working for decades. Guess we are all like that when we retire. Still have to arrive on time to Bridge twice weekly of course!!
I realise now it does take courage, but it also requires a lot of curiosity & a desire to move somewhere new & almost reinvent yourself when leaving your country - for me my beloved NZ.
I think the happiest expats here are the ones who are looking for a big change in their lives. As you know I have lived “changes” all my life so still feeling comfortable.
There's so much I enjoy here. The Panamanian people — they're some of the warmest & kindest I have known.
Then there is the poor infrastructure - pot holes & more pot holes & rubbish pick up…….etc etc.
Also a lot of dog owners do not lock up their dogs like we do in NZ. There are Animal Care groups that gather as many dogs & cats as possible — with permission from their owners of course or they could be just ‘street dogs’. They spay or neuter them & return to the owners or place them in a dog care facility where they are called ‘rescue’ dogs that are given to expats &
Panamanians to care for. A lot of the expats we know have ‘rescue’ dogs. Some are just amazing & enjoyable but some have health issues that can need lots of Vet costs. One of our friends has a ‘rescue’ dog that is recovering from Heart Worm & is taking a long time to recover with medication.
Our Jazz is OK as he was supposedly? from a dog breeder at only 2 months old so he is very healthy & happy but definitely not the poodle/maltese cross he was said to be!! He is now 1 year old.
Who cares? He is part of our family now.
J has made a lot of outside improvements & almost finished an emergency exit through the window & security bars above our bed just in case the front door is unable to be opened. I will be happy with 2 exits as we have blocked the laundry/kitchen outside door.
About half the Bridge players are Snow Birds. They come here Nov/Dec for the USA & Canadian winters & then back for the summers in Mar/Apr - so fewer players now but usually still enough for 2 tables.
Cheers to you all - do keep
safe & happy.
